EFCC Essay Writing Competition For Nigerians 2024

The EFCC Essay Competition 2024 for Young Nigerians is now ongoing and application is being accepted from interested Nigerians to submit entries.

The preponderance of economic and financial crimes like Advance Fee Fraud (419), Money Laundering, etc has had severe negative consequences on Nigeria, including decreased Foreign Direct Investments in the country and tainting of Nigeria’s national image. The menace of these crimes and the recognition of the magnitude and gravity of the situation led to the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The legal instrument backing the Commission is the attached EFCC (Establishment) Act 2002 and the Commission has high-Ievel support from the Presidency, the Legislature and key security and law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

Essay Topic for Tertiary Category:  “Write an essay on the topic: Using Technology for Social Good: How Digital Solutions Can Be Leveraged to Promote Transparency in Governance.”

Topic for Secondary Category: “Exploring Alternatives to Cybercrimes for Sustainable Development.”

Competition Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the competition, applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian
  • Write and submit an essay on the given topic
  • The essay must not be more than 1,500 words for the tertiary and 1,000 words for the secondary category. Use double spacing. Use Font 14, Century Gothic.

The closing date is 9th September 2024.

Tertiary Category

  • Winner: N800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)
  • First Runner-up: N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira)
  • Second Runner-up: N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira)

Secondary Category

  • Winner: N700,000 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira)
  • First Runner-up: N400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira)
  • Second Runner-up: N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira)

Panel of judges shall consist of persons from the media, academia, and civil society organizations.
